Are you addicted to Sugar???

Sugar Addiction is a very real thing and very addictive. I have never done a drug before, but I can only imagine getting off of sugar is equal if not more difficult to get off then drugs! That is one woman’s opinion, but it is tough. So many Americans struggle every day with sugar addition. We as a society crave it and think we “need” it. But the truth is the more you allow yourself to eat sugar, the more you will crave it. SO, logically the longer you go without sugar the easier it is to say no to it!
Don’t let a sweet tooth or carb craving prevent you from reaching your goals. Keep cravings in check with these practical methods.
Enjoy a small portion. Don’t give up these foods. In your overall healthy diet, include a small portion of the less healthy foods you crave. Better to enjoy a square of chocolate than to avoid it altogether to only way over do it later.
One of the things that helps me the most is to eat something healthy before I know I am going to have something that not part of my plan. It’s often easier to eat less of the food you’re craving if you’re not ravenously hungry. So fill up on fruits or veggies that are pleasing to your palate.
Keep the food you crave out of the house. Buy the item only when you plan to eat it, or order it at a restaurant. SO limit the availability of foods you crave and make it easier on yourself.
Change your mental picture. When you experience a craving, replace the image of the food with a picture of yourself doing your favorite activity or some other pleasant image.
Distract yourself. Food cravings usually pass after 20 minutes. Try taking a walk or talking to a friend.
Get enough sleep and exercise. These habits help lower your levels of the hormone ghrelin, which stimulates appetite. Lack of sleep can lead to food cravings and overeating.
All these ideas and methods are great for helping reduce the sugar cravings.. but the truth hurt… they don’t every go completely away. But good news, is the more you say NO the easier it will get! Do not be hard on yourself. Love yourself and your choices. Be kind to your body and you mind!
